Are you eating enough?

With so much pressure out there that may make you feel you need to be a certain size or apps or internet sources saying to just eat less and move more as the answer to weight loss equation, I often find that women are not eating enough.

Anything suggesting going below 1200 calories for women, is not a good idea. For many this 1200 calories is still too low and will only decrease your metabolism in time.

You may see results at first, but often the weight loss slows to a crawl or stops all together.

I can’t believe how many centers for weight loss suggest dropping calories even lower than this while being supervised by a doctor. It's just too low and can have consequences.

Not eating enough can lead to nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances, loss of lean muscle, unstable moods, a slower metabolism, a poor relationship with food, getting away from understanding your natural cues for hunger and more.

Signs that you may be under eating include:

  • Weight loss has stopped even though consistent with nutrition and exercise regime

  • Increased fatigue

  • Always hungry

  • Changes in mood; increased irritability

  • Irregularity in your cycle

  • Sleep Issues

  • Constipation

  • Feeling cold all the time

There is no one size fits all for how many calories you should consume daily. Everyone is different in their needs based on muscle mass, activity, fitness level and what your goals are. Needs can also change daily.

If you need help figuring out how much food to eat and get better in touch with listening to your body I can help.
